Parents with three childrenShelly and Robert’s Story

Shelly and Robert married after high school and immediately began having kids. By their early thirties they had three young children and drug abuse problems too. The justice system placed charges against the couple and removed the kids from their home, while referring the whole family to Centerstone.

Both parents were eager to get the kids back, but Robert was—at first—resistant to addictions treatment. In fact, the family exhibited multiple problems—drug addiction, poverty, emotional and relationship problems, and weak parenting skills. Centerstone quickly enrolled both Shelly and Robert in Intensive Outpatient Treatment to help with substance abuse problems. The entire family was also provided with case management services and parenting skills training.

Now both parents are in recovery from drug use and the children have been reunited with them. The crisis care given by Centerstone helped Shelly and Robert learn how to better cope with the challenges of parenthood, make healthier lifestyle decisions, and find the resources they need to build a future for their family.

“Centerstone’s family support specialists work closely with parents
and children to improve lives.”
