The Centerstone Research Institute (CRI) has secured a three-year, $5 million grant as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act allowed Centerstone to create the Career Resource Center. Centerstone's Career Resource Center offers education opportunities, job training, employment placement assistance and support services to 600 people in five Middle Tennessee counties: Maury, Bedford, Coffee, Marshall, and Lawrence.

Centerstone’s Career Resource Center offers services to help prepare individuals to select, enter and advance in various areas of the healthcare industry. As part of the grant-funded program, approximately 420 people will receive funding to complete and receive a certificate or degree, and 290 will be placed into employment following their training. Support services offered through Centerstone’s Career Resource Center include child care assistance and interview preparation training. 

The Center officially launched operations and began reviewing potential participants on Tuesday, June 15. Our offices, located in Tullahoma and Columbia, opened on July 1.

Before applying, program participants should be aware that:

• All participants must undergo a screening and interview process. Applicants must agree to make a commitment to complete the entire training program including educational training, interactions with case management and other required components.
• Individuals must be willing to apply for other funds available to them as the ARRA dollars for training and supportive services will be used as dollars of last resort.
• Individuals must sign a self certification statement attest that all application materials are accurate.
• Veterans have preference.

Beyond these general guidelines, applicants must meet ALL of the criteria in the following list:

• All applicants must pass a drug test
• All applicants must agree to a background check. Applicants whose records show a history of felony or abuse/assault related convictions will not be accepted.
• All applicants must be either a high school graduate or GED recipient prior to enrolling.
• All applicants must be at least 18 years old.
• All applicants must live in one of the following five Tennessee counties and provide proof of residence: Bedford, Maury, Coffee, Marshall or Lawrence. 
• All applicants must be either a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
• All applicants must be enrolled in Selective Service, if required.
• All applicants must complete the Free Application from Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Along with the requirements above, participants must also fall into one of the following eligibilty categories:

• Dislocated Worker
• Terminated or Laid Off
• Permanent Closure or Substantial Layoff
• Formerly Self-Employed
• Incumbent Worker
• Includes low wage workers who possess higher skill set
• Workers who need to upgrade their skills to retain employment
  
• Underemployed through part time work but in need of a full time job 
• Unemployed Worker
• An individual who is without a job who and wants a job and is eligible to work

Centerstone’s Career Resource Center is led by Mary Moran, Centerstone’s Director of Community-Based Services for Adults. Program partners include Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Local Workforce Investment Area Boards 6 and 10, Tennessee Technology Center at Shelbyville, Tennessee Technology Center at Hohenwald, Maury Regional Medical Center, Tennessee Department of Children Services, and Tennessee Department of Human Services.
