Centerstone faces loss of SAMHSA grant funding

Centerstone has a long history of adapting to funding changes and maintaining its mission of delivering care that changes people’s lives for the better. On the evening of Tuesday, January 13, we were notified of changes to certain federal grant programs awarded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

For Centerstone, these grant terminations impact 28 programs across seven of the states we operate in (Missouri, Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Oklahoma, North Carolina and Florida) and mean the loss of approximately $14.3 million in funding from now through the end of 2026.

In the Centerstone system, about 3,000 individuals received more than 30,000 instances of treatment and/or care as a result of the impacted grants in 2025. The long-term effects of these terminations are projected to last for years.

Loss of these funds will reduce access to mental health care and substance use disorder services for millions of American families, services that have been proven to reduce stigma around mental health care, save lives and strengthen our nation’s communities.

Our patients are and will continue to be the top priority. We are taking responsible steps to manage resources and to keep delivering essential mental health services.
